I took a quick break to knit a dress for Ginger's birthday on the 3rd September. She will be 2!

This pattern is The Elizabeth Tunic which I am licensed to sell, I'm very excited about this because it is such a perfect pattern. I love the button detail at the neck and the round collar fits so beautifully with no suggestion of the straps sliding off like some of the other knitted dresses I have made. So this pattern comes with my personal recommendation.

The Yarn is Floating on a Cloud from Family Roots. Just gorgeous.

Yes, that's right, after 9 months off I'm dusting off my knitting needles, figuratively speaking of course because I have not stopped knitting for the past 9 months, quite the contrary in fact, I've been knitting to my little hearts content.

It was great to have that time off to fill my children's wardrobes with Winter Woollies, but now I'm looking for a change again.

I've got new things in store for Loopy Lilly including some new licenses for non-nappy related knits like tunic dresses for example ;)

I'm sorry to say that I wont be doing anymore Loopy Lilly knitting after the current wait list is finished. I've enjoyed it while it lasted but I feel I'm devoting too much of my time to it unfortunately. Time I would rather spend knitting for my own children and as gifts for my friends and family. The Mother of All Rallies

We made our way to Canberra for the Mother Of All Rallies, which turned out to be a wet day, but nevertheless there was a great energy in the air.
Ginger had celebrated her birth day (and so had I!) a few days earlier so it was very fitting and lovely to be there with my little homebirth babe whose entrance to the wolrd changed my life in so many ways.

It was a fantastic turn out. The whole time I was wondering how many people were there. I guessed in the hundreds but media reports range from 2000-3500, so that is fantastic!

Considering 99.9% of people came from outside of the ACT it really demonstrated how passionate we are about homebirth. How important it is in our lives.

I met loads of other homebirth mummies, it was so great to put faces to so many names.

We have such a long way to go. Our fight has only just begun. Despite statements made by Nicola Roxon just days before the rally, the federal government has every intention of making homebirth an impossible choice for Australian women, and this is an utter tragedy for all of us.

This is my possum in her new longies. These are from WOOLfganic Merino from The Dye Pot. So beautiful. I just adore this colourway. It's called Tallullah.

My cousin and his partner welcomed their first child recently. A baby boy. This is the package I sent to them.

I'm going to have a small break before I continue with the custom list. I just feel I need to knit a few things for my own kids for a bit :)
They are a tad neglected.

When I get back into it there are three names still on the list and after that I'm not knitting anymore customs for a while. It will be a novelty to knit for myself and my children and it will give me time to take on more charity projects and projects for gifting.

...we welcomed a new addition to our extended family in the form of my cousins dughter. She is stunningly gorgeous but had a few health problems at birth, so last week was very stressful for all of us. She is home now and doing well, however I am behind in my knitting as I have been lending my support to my cousin and also rushing to knit a couple of things for the little Miss as she arrived a couple of weeks ahead of schedule.

I apologise for the delay. I am starting on the next custom today and I just finished this one!!

Homebirth no more?

I just want to draw your attention to something going on right now which threatens a womans right to choose where and how she gives birth. You may not think it applies to you if you are not one of the small percentage of women who wishes to give birth at home....however consider the ramifications of this decision by our government to dictate to women what kind of birth we are "allowed" to have.

Consider the fact that this is the first step in a continual errosion of ALL our rights. Today homebirth with a registered midwife is being outlawed....tomorrow, maybe a choice that applies to you will be outlawed.

And what about your daughters and your grand daughters? What choices will be left for them?

What a disgraceful situation we find ourselves in. We cannot sit by and allow this choice to be taken from us.

I have so much in the works right now, it is not even the slightest bit funny.
I have a pile of sewing to complete, a knitting list a mile long....I have to gather and make things for a double blessingway (both of my cousins are expecting babies within a month of each other) and we have renovations and house projects coming out of our ears.

In amongst all this I have a custom list staring at me, which I am trying desperately to hide from.....but it's not working.

Fluffy Mail!

Look what arrived today from ikis Cloth. Two stunning nappies, a pair of soft soled baby shoes and a matching bib. We haven't had fluffy mail for quite a while and this package was particularly soft and delightful. Pam takes such pride in her sewing and it is all meticulous. Absolutely flawless quality in every item.

This one is a Fattycakes with Born At Home on the bum.

This one is a Hippy Hippy Snap AI2 with bamboo velour inner. So soft and yummy.

Ginger is a little grumpy on her 9 month Birthday because she has her first tooth coming through so she wasn't in the mood for modelling her shoes and bib. But she had fun checking them out.

The reason I've had to re-shuffle is because one item is for a trade and seeing as the other party has completed my item it's only fair to have hers completed in a reasonable period of time I feel. There are two new beauties living in our house now.

This one is a DIY job, she is a fun print with a stunning colour combination. I love pink and green together. I used nice heavy corduroy for the straps and body as well as a layer of cotton twill in the body and then one layer of print. A basic mei tai but one of my favorites.

This is my beautiful Custom Dream Carrier. So so funky. My only SSC (at this stage) :P

It is heartbreaking what has been happening down in Victoria. It has touched so many of us, even from far off places where we cannot imagine fire for all the rain we are experiencing. Like everyone, I want to help. On 1st march Minicuteture will be re-opening with some combined charity auctions and Loopy Lilly will also be running an auction in aid of the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal. Please bid generously. In addition I have decided to donate 10% of all Loopy Lilly proceeds for the month of March.

Now my stocking has had a few hiccups as I waited for my wool delivery and I am running a little behind. I don't know how many items I will have ready by 1st March but I am working hard to have as many as humanly possible. I will post a few previews here for all you sticky beaks but not too many. We need some surprises.

In my personal life, the house hunting continues. The tide seems to have turned and it is quickly becoming a buyers market so we are being very discerning about what house we pursue. I am desperate to have my own home, but as they say "Good things come to those who wait."

On that note, I am waiting for my very own custom Dream Carrier. I can't wait for my Lucky Girl to land on my door step.

Yarn mail and a soaker...

I got some delicious yarn mail from The Dye Pot. Scrummy colourways on a nice, thick merino base. I wanted to test this yarn out for Loopy Lilly so I quickly knit a frilly soaker for Ginger.
The colours are lovely and so is the yarn. It gets the thumbs up so far but I want to see how it washes and wears as well.

A new house ??

We made an offer on a great house yesterday. Yayayayayay!
We have a loan application in the works as well. Oh I hope this is the one for us.

It's got 3 big bedrooms, plus a big L-shaped sleepout, plus another little study type room (maybe the kids toy room) - all in addition to the large lounge/dining area. The bathroom is nicely done, the kitchen is quaint but relatively new. The whole house is white inside with nice dark floorboards and posh carpet in the bedrooms.

It's a big old Qld-er and underneath is massive with potential to put a slab and make a studio for Dion as well a big play area for the kids and loads of storage.

This house needs a big deck which will no doubt be one of our first renovations.

I'm pretty excited if you can't tell.

The best thing about it is that everyone will have their own space - I will get my own knitting/craft room!!!

I can't believe we could be home owners and be paying just a little more than we currently do in rent.

So that's my big news for the week.

I hate waiting

I've ordered 2kgs of BFL, 500gms of Aran Merino and some more stunning yarn from The Dye Pot and now I have to wait for it to arrive. I hate waiting. But I love the day it finally lands on my door step. Nothing like a big pile of squishy yarn.

I've got plenty on at the moment, but I like being busy.
I've got to speed knit a soaker for Ginger out of a new yarn I am testing for Loopy Lilly. And I want to have an exclusive Loopy Lilly colourway available for all you Winter knitters. The first Loopy Lilly colourway ever. Everything else I've done has been OOAK and never to be repeated. Never to repeated because I can't remember how I did it!

The first Loopy Lilly colourway is one for the girls and it's been seen before ;)
Enough hints, you will just have to wait and see.

Stocking News

Well last year was a busy one - we had a baby, moved house not once, but twice, sold our car, bought another one and re-opened Loopy Lilly with great success.

At the moment I am completing a couple of customs and knitting stock for a March 1st stocking. This one will be big. I hope to have at least 6 longies sets ready to go, as well as a custom slot or two. Minicuteture will also be running a number of auctions which I will be involved in.

Previously I have taken on a lot of privately requested customs, but I can't keep doing this. So I will be releasing very limited custom slots through my store and will not be able to fulfill any more private requests. I would really love to do a custom for everyone who asks but I just don't get time to stock my store at all and I also find it a bit stressful, I will admit.

I've got back into my blogging again so all updates and news of stockings will be posted here.

Kozy Love

I'm still trying to get this mei tai thing happening properly. Today we went to Natural Bridge and I wore Ginger in the Kozy. I did a back carry with the bottom rolled up so that she could see out. She loved it and fell asleep after a while.

I had to stop and adjust it a few times and near the end of our hour long walk my shoulders were starting to ache. I suspect because of the way she was leaning to one side.

I think it needs wearing in, it's still a little stiff. But it's a great carrier. My only gripe is the long straps which hang in the dirt or mud while I'm tying them.

I do love the print of this Kozy. Pretty but not overly so. I think Dion could almost get away with wearing it.

In celebration of normal natural childbirth

Ginger was born at home in our garage. I had arranged the space with a futon, our birth pool, candles, rugs and affirmations.

On the morning of her birth I started having contractions at 6.30am. I sent my partner off to work and spent the morning pottering around, doing washing, playing with Oscar and finishing off the birth room. When things amped up I called my partner home and called my mother to come and watch Oscar. I retreated to our birth room not noticing my change in behavior and not realising that the birth was imminent.

By the time I asked Dion to call our midwife Sue, I was fully dilated, had jumped in the pool and my body was beginning to push Ginger out.

Nothing was required of me but to ride it out and enjoy it.

Ginger's head and shoulders were born before our midwife made an appearance and as Sue watched on the rest of her body slid out into her daddies hands.

A baby girl was born at 4.35pm. Everyone felt energised, especially me. Her brother was there, he has fond memories of his sisters birth. I found the experience exhilarating, sensual - amazing. I want to do it again and again.

Yarn lushness

This is from The Dye Pot. Sara is a good friend of mine who does amazing kettle dyeing. She sent me this skein as a gift because she is beautiful. It's super soft, ultrafine merino - Aran, nice and thick.

Lucky me! This skein will be knitted into something for Ginger - either a soaker or some capris.
